About Mrs. Gorkaya

I believe a strong part of education is building a relationship between students and their teacher. I also believe that it is important to build a relationship with the community and for parents to know about the teacher working with their children. My name is JoAnna Gorkaya, and I will be teaching your student this year in fourth grade! After graduating from Metropolitan State University, I started my teaching adventure by taking on maternity leaves in second, fifth, and sixth grades. I then taught third grade for three years before moving to fourth grade. I have enjoyed teaching fourth grade, and love the curriculum and subjects I get to explore with the students through the year! My passion is with reading, and I am so excited to be able to share that passion with the class this year as we explore a variety of genres and authors in our reading groups as well as in our read alouds!

Along with being a teacher, I am a wife and a mommy. My husband, Max, and I have a daughter named Mila who will be turning two this year. She has been so much fun, and I have thoroughly enjoyed watching her grow and learn as she gets bigger. Our current obsession is with Sesame Street (specifically Elmo) and the word "no". We also have two dogs, Bella and King. They are both very loving and fun dogs. They love "their" baby and are just as much her parents as we are. Outside of school, I enjoy playing with Mila and exploring different places. One of our favorite places to be is the zoo or anywhere outside. I also enjoy cooking, reading, and spending time with my friends and family.
